DAREBIN’S PITCH COMPETITION IS BACK! DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA TO BENEFIT THE DAREBIN COMMUNITY? HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO PITCH IT IN UNDER 10 MINUTES?
Darebin Pitch IT gives local students, graduates, entrepreneurs, businesses, not-for-profits and social enterprises the opportunity to turn innovative start-up ideas into reality. The competition supports up-and-coming entrepreneurs, in the Darebin community to create and scale new and exciting social impact businesses that encourage our city to be more connected, healthier and bolder, and focus on inclusion, equity, sustainability and/or health and wellbeing.
To be eligible to enter Darebin Pitch IT, start-up teams must either live, work or study in the City of Darebin. Certified proof will also be required.

+ Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible to enter, Darebin Pitch IT applicant(s) or at least one team member (for groups) must either live, work or study in the City of Darebin. You can find a list of Darebin suburbs here. Applicants will also be required to provide further documentation to support their eligibility, for more information please read the terms and conditions. Individuals or teams may apply and must be the initiator of the idea, and the idea must be their own original work. Ideas and start-ups must be 0-2 years old.
+ Is there an application fee?
There is no fee to apply.
+ Am I required to submit a pitch deck?
Yes, applicants must upload their completed pitch deck (in a PDF format) along with their completed application form. Pitch decks must not exceed 12 pages.
+ When do applications close?
Online applications must be completed and submitted on darebinpitchit.com.au by 11:59PM on Friday 15 March 2019. Late responses will not be considered.
+ What availability is required of Applicants/Finalists?
Applicants must be available to attend the following key dates:
• Pitch IT Day (22 March 2019)
• Accelerator Program (29 April – 10 May 2019)
• Grand Final (30 May 2019)
+ How will my application be evaluated on Pitch IT Day?
Applications will be evaluated against the following areas for strength and suitability:
What problem does the idea solve? Does the idea have merit for commercialisation? Does it have wide appeal to the community? Will the idea create employment or attract investment to the region? Will it highlight Darebin as a progressive and pragmatic region in which to live and work?
How original is the pitch/idea? Does something similar already exist? Does the idea streamline, improve or enhance something already in market?
Does the idea address one or more sustainability-themed issues, including climate change, global warming, renewable energy, population growth, waste management, and food practices? Does it apply smart resource technology to address any such issue?
Equity and Inclusion:
Does the idea improve access or support for excluded communities within Darebin? Does the idea build social cohesion across our neighbourhoods and/or communities?
Does the idea increase connection across our culturally diverse communities? Foster collaboration between multi-skilled teams? Create new industry?
Health and Wellbeing:
Will the concept improve the wellbeing of all Darebin people? Does the idea provide opportunities our community to live their lives well?
How well does the individual or team present their idea and sell their story? Was the pitch compelling? Did the Pitch incorporate visuals, a prototype, or any other material to help tell their story?
The total number of votes that each pitch scores from the judging panel will determine the top five.
Ideas that do not satisfy these eligibility criteria may be removed or disregarded.
+ What are the prizes?
$20,000 prize money will be awarded to the grand final winner. This money must be spent to kick-start the winning business concept.
